About Trade Counselor
Trade Counselor (built by Trade Counselor LLC) is a trade journaling application for stock day traders, currently in private beta. Traders describe their trades in natural conversation; the app structures them into a searchable journal.
SMS Copilot is an optional feature that lets a user text questions about their own trade journal — "How did I do with NVDA this week?" — and receive an automated AI-generated answer. Messaging is strictly user-initiated: Trade Counselor only ever replies to messages the user sends first. There are no marketing texts, alerts, or scheduled messages of any kind.
Where opt-in happens
SMS Copilot is off by default. A user opts in inside the Trade Counselor web application (currently in private beta, behind login) at Account Settings → SMS Copilot. The user must enter their phone number, agree to the SMS Terms of Service via an explicit checkbox, and verify ownership of the number with a one-time code before any messaging is enabled.
For compliance reviewers
The four screens below show the consent experience exactly as it appears inside the authenticated application. Phone numbers cannot be added any other way — there is no public form, no import of numbers, and no third-party list. Consent to receive SMS is never a condition of using Trade Counselor.
Step 1 — User reviews the SMS Terms and enters their number
In Account Settings, the SMS Copilot section displays the SMS Terms of Service directly above the phone number field. The consent checkbox must be actively checked before the "Link Phone Number" button can be used.

The user types their mobile number, checks the consent box, and presses "Link Phone Number." The button is disabled until the consent box is checked.
Step 2 — User verifies ownership of the number
Trade Counselor sends a one-time verification code to the number. The user must enter it to prove the phone belongs to them — a number can never be linked without completing this step.

Step 4 — Welcome message confirms the opt-in by SMS
Immediately after verification, the user receives a welcome SMS that confirms their opt-in and repeats the program disclosures — frequency, rates, HELP, and STOP.
